Three directives for 28 member states = nearly 100 different interpretations
Manufacturers, which aim to sell their products in all countries of the EU, currently are supposed to fail. Each of the 28 EU member States has interpreted the directives to WEEE, to Packaging- and Battery Rule in a different way. IN some countries manufacturers with a base in a foreign country may not register in, in others they may not take part in the entitled recycling and take-back-systems-systems and again in others they may do it all without problems.
The last attempt to harmonization started the EU with the WEEE-recast. Under the line there solely remained that each country on its own ground has to provide a registration with the support of an entitled person for companies without a local base. Further on the data (name of manufacturer, base, brand and so on) to register in should be harmonized. That sounded well, but doesn’t work in more than 30 percent of all EU countries.
More simple are – comparably – the duties of labeling. Here EU left not enough space for different interpretations. The same duties are to respect in all EU-countries.
